LET’S TALK THE PERFECT FLAT LAY

When we look back at our wedding photos, we want to be reminded of how we felt, how we looked and even those little things like the perfume we wore, the jewellery and the shoes. A flat lay is a great way to style all these little little memories together. So what do we need for the perfect flat lay?

Some of the standard wedding flat lay items to use are your wedding invites, with envelopes and themed stamps, as well as save the dates and RSVP cards. But don’t just leave it there! If you hire a photographer well trained in the art of flay lays…like myself! Then they will be adding all sorts to create a bespoke and beautiful flat lay.

Bridal Flat Lay

Include a single stem from the brides bouquet, this can look really beautiful and can provide a little pop of colour. You can also add colour with a little food, I don’t mean a half-eaten sandwich! I’m talking grapes or lemons, something that is in keeping with the style of the wedding, lemons are perfect if it was an Italian styled wedding!

It has become increasingly popular to exchange gifts between the bride and groom on the morning of the wedding so add this to the flat lay, unless it is absolutely huge!

‘‘The average women falls in

love 10 times and only 6 of them are with shoes’’

– Kenneth Cole

Don’t forget the shoes! By the end of the night after through fields for the perfect golden hour photo and dancing the night away; whether we like it or not out wedding shoes always look a little worse for wear. Including them in the flat lay will help you to remember them as they were, beautiful, elegant and yours.

‘‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.’’ - Marilyn Monroe

Add a little sparkle! Include the bride’s earrings, necklace and all jewellery she will be wearing, even a little hairpiece. A great tip is to incorporate a little sunlight and shadows into shadows in your flat lay. The way the sun bounces of the jewellery is just stunning.

I personally love a flat lay, it’s creates a beautiful snapshot of your wedding. So don’t forget to bring a copy of your wedding stationery! Set a reminder or ask a bridesmaid. You really don’t want to miss out on this stylish and stunning photo opportunity.

Top tip for photographers, something I only learned recently! If you don’t have a plain background for your flat lay, lay the flower girl dresses together. The white tulle is ideal for the backdrop behind a bright and beautiful flat lay.
